If you often wake up with a runny nose, stuffy nose, difficulty breathing, and a feeling of pressure on the ear (but all these symptoms disappear a few hours later), this may be a symptom of sinus.
No need to rush to panic and think to overcome it with surgery, because as reported by Asia One, sinus symptoms can be reduced by a few simple ways:
1. Humidifier
Dry air can cause the sinuses to become worse. Try using a humidifier or humidity regulator in your bedroom. Install at night so you avoid various sinus symptoms such as runny nose and stuffy nose in the morning. But, don't forget to regularly clean the humidifier.
2. Drink water
Drinking enough water will keep your body hydrated, and keep your sinus condition moist. The best thing is to drink water. Avoid drinking tea or coffee that contains caffeine because it will make the body become dehydrated.
3. Eat hot food
Hot steam from food will help thin mucus. You can choose hot chicken soup that is commonly used by flu patients to relieve nasal congestion. A US study published in the Chest Journal found that chicken soup is anti-inflammatory which can improve the condition of upper respiratory tract infections.
4. Get rid of all allergens
If your sinuses are caused by certain allergens, such as dust or animal hair, one way to relieve symptoms is to avoid them. Start cleaning the area of the house to make sure it is free of allergens. Avoid carpets that usually store dust and animal dander, clean curtains, and change sheets regularly.
5. Maintain cleanliness
Maintaining cleanliness will never hurt. Start with yourself, for example by diligently washing your hands every time you hold something, including holding your own face.
6. Warm bath
Heat and steam from warm water will help relieve congestion. Take a bath in a closed bathroom, and breathe in the warm steam produced from your bath water. Alternatively, you can breathe warm steam from a bowl of hot water placed in front of your face.
7. Hot compress
If the pressure in the sinuses starts to make you headaches, try compressing the area around the nose with a cloth that has been soaked in hot water before. This method can help reduce the pressure on the sinuses and relieve your headaches.
8. Light sports
Brisk walking or jogging can help relieve sinus symptoms. When you exercise, you will take a deep breath, and this will relieve a stuffy nose.
